We’re always sad when a favourite night of ours closes its doors for the final time and so it’s with a heavy heart that we’ve learnt of the news that this Saturday’s Discoteca Poca will be their last. A night put on by people who knew exactly how to throw a party and boasting a host of inspired guests to the decks over the past two and a half years – Waze & Odyssey, Hercules & Love Affair, Prosumer, and Andrew Weatherall spring to mind – it was one of the more inspired nights out in the city.
They’re making sure that they’re going out on a high though and have invited Mr Weatherall (above) back, this time in his A Love From Outer Space set up alongside Sean Johnston, to play an epic 5 hour long set.
ALFOS is that well-trodden musical platitude of a “ journey” but one that shrugs off clichés and allows a snapshot into the minds – and depths of the record collections – of a duo who have been friends for over two decades, a kinship born out of music. Originally born out of a club night they ran of the same name, the decision to take it on the road has been welcomed by those who have attended one of their nights. Expect a veritable mixing pot of genres – and a lot of fun. Thanks for having us Discoteca Poca, it’s been a blast.
Oh and they’ve very kindly given us two pairs of tickets to give for this Saturday’s shindig – simply retweet on Twitter or ‘Like’ on Facebook, and we’ll put your name in a hat. Competition closes 12pm on Friday, and we’ll notify the winners before 5pm.
