409698_0_subvert-presents-hannah-wants-grum_400Look, we’ll level with you. A night out on the docks would, up until recently, have been met with a firm “sorry, we’re washing our hair” response and a sigh of relief that we’d avoided those prinnies falling over the cobbles in their blag Loubs and wide eyed lads gripping oversized bottles of Grey Goose that cost more than our first car. That to us is not a fun night out.

However, we are always happy to be proved wrong (we’re not actually, we hate it) and our last couple of jaunts down there have been enjoyable. The tide appears to be turning and forcing those wannabe wags into town to snag their footballer husband, leaving the Albert Dock and its gorgeous surroundings free for those who just want to have a drink and a dance in peace.

One of the reasons for this change of heart is the introduction of some credible DJ’s into the mix, and the night heading this particular movement is Subvert at Revolution. Quietly bubbling away for the last six months, they’ve already played host to Kissy Sell Out, Hoxton Whores, and ASkillz and this month they’ve invited Hannah Wants and Grum down to the decks.

097004eb-398d-4769-9530-ddc77c7a667fHannah Wants is the very definition of a rising star in dance music with sets at Fabric, XOYO, and Cream and playing alongside Skream, Duke Dumont and Darius Syrossian. She’s also making her mark on Ibiza this season but has popped back to the sunny Costa Del Mersey with her bass heavy house sounds.

And Grum (pic) has probably remixed most of your record collection, with David Bowie, Pet Shop Boys and Groove Armada all boasting one of his reworkings. His latest album, Everytime, is out shortly and the lead single from it has been bigged up by Annie Mac; a woman who probably hears more new music in a week than most of us in a lifetime.

Still not convinced? Well, it’s open till 4am, it costs a measly £3 to get in and there’s something magical about listening to great dance music and looking out onto the picturesque dock.

If you don’t believe us, maybe you should go down and see for yourself. We’ve got a competition to give away for one lucky person (and four of their mates) to go down, get in for free and they’ll even throw in a bottle of vodka too. If you want to win this, RT on Twitter or Like on Facebook. Or maybe we’ll just keep the prize for ourselves…
