As we’ve noted before, Runcorn’s Brindley has one of the most eclectic programmes of any venue in the area. Where else, for example, can you see The Chuckle brothers, the bloke from Dr Hook, Mike Harding, Dave Spikey and a fat Take That tribute band?

The multi-purpose venue has just announced its Spring season and, while there’s a lot of stuff that frankly isn’t on our radar, there are some nuggets in there that caught our eye. There are also dozens of courses every week covering fitness, music and culture.

The aforementioned Spikey is joined by comedians Alun Cochrane and Patrick Monaghan over the next couple of months, rounded off by Mike Harding, back touring a comedy show for the first time in a couple of decades interspersed, of course, with songs – he composed the Dangermouse theme tune you know.

A number of music gigs could be prefaced with ‘the bloke from…’ including 10cc’s Graham Gouldman and Dr Hook’s Dennis Locorriere, while the Brindley will see versions of Showaddywaddy, The Drifters and Four Poofs and a Piano, in kind of live exploration of the concept of The Ship of Theseus.

What else? Well, there’s opera, dance, theatre, musicals, choirs, talent shows, talks and tribute acts. Plus there are exhibitions of the photography of Nick Danziger and art of Derek Couturier. Plenty of things to consider at the region’s most diverse performance space.
