Over the past 20 years Shaun Ryder’s been a Manchester music pioneer, an actor, a hardcore drug addict and a reality TV star. It’s a pretty impressive CV for a self-confessed ‘Salford scally’ who once bit a dog while tripping on acid (no, really).

Following renewed interest in Ryder – he came second on last year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity’ – he’s penned an autobiography: the hilarious, brutal and genuinely brilliant ‘Twisting My Melon’. Leaving no stone unturned, it covers – in lurid detail – Ryder’s rise from Manchester council estate to musical whirlwind as part of Happy Mondays, Black Grape and Gorillaz. As well as the occasional ‘scoring crack in Barbados’ tangent. You wouldn’t get that in Jordan’s latest book, would you?

Ryder’s no stranger to the city, having played here numerous times over the years, but on 22nd September he heads to Leaf in his guise as an author. The one-off discussion, centred around ‘Twisting My Melon’, is set to be just as enlightening, hilarious and horrifying as the book.
