Make The City Sound Better

ART A pretty amazing project. This modified London cab toots its way around the capital, recording all the ambient sounds of the city as it goes. A computer then generates real-time music from these sounds, and plays it out through huge speaker horns on its roof. Lovely. Hear some of the results online.

Harvard University on Soundcloud

AUDIO Alright, it’s not quite as amazing as that John Peel haul we told you about a few months ago (now sadly offline). But this ongoing collection of Harvard’s podcasts, audio documentaries and mini lectures from the university’s different schools and faculties is full of great stuff to put your brain in gear.

Wedding Jam

BUSINESS We love hearing about great new local businesses – this one popped into our inbox last week and sounds ace. Fed up with expensive wedding DJs playing awful ‘wedding classics’, this lot cater for couples who want something a bit alternative for their big day, with a roster of brilliant local club DJs like No Fakin and Jess Gascoigne. Soul, disco, hip hop, funk and everything in between is catered for. It’s basically like having a boss night out at the Magnet, but you’re actually getting married instead.

Man-made rainbows

ART The nights are drawing in. It’s officially thermal underwear season (we’ll show you ours if you show us yours). But these beautiful rainbows, artificially created by artist Michael Jones McKean, make us all warm and fuzzy inside. More information

Easy Star All Stars, Floral Pavillion – 4th November

GIG Legendary reggae covers crew Easy Star All Stars visit New Brighton this coming weekend. We can’t wait. They’ve done, amongst others, the impeccably brilliant Dub Side Of The Moon, RadioDread, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band and their latest Easy Stars Thrillah albums (you can probably guess which artists they’re covering without us having to point it out for you). Getting irie in New Brighton never felt so fun.
