Stanley Street and the surrounding areas are pretty buzzing during weekdays and Saturday nights – office workers keep it a busy zone during the day, and the quarter’s bars and restaurants keep it going at night. But other than refuelling at Delifonseca there’s pretty much no reason to pass through during weekend hours – there’s just not much to do, right?
Until now, that is. The first of its new monthly food markets takes place along Stanley Street on Saturday, giving local Liverpool food companies a chance to sell (amongst other things) coffee, chocolate, cheese and cheesecakes, artisan bread, ‘drinky stuff’ and every other tasty thing you can possibly think of.
“This new venture widens the range of markets available in Liverpool” says Paul Amann, chair of Stanley Street Quarter Steering Group. “It will concentrate on high quality food and drink and really extend choice for shoppers.”
That’s the hope, anyway – Stanley Street sits tantalisingly close to Liverpool ONE, but hasn’t had a chance to steal its crowds during waking hours. Let’s hope this gives the area the push it needs during the weekend, and gives some much-needed cash to excellent local food producers too.
