You may have heard about this thing called social media yeah? And that you need to be on it. Or in it. Or part of it.

For the uninitiated, the expanding world of tech / geek / media can be bemusing, overwhelming. But there’s help at hand. Liverpool’s regular Social Media Cafes offer an enjoyable way into this community – and they sell beer there too.

This month, the event looks at the uses of Open Data and the business opportunities it may hold. Speakers will talk about how they use open data and how it could benefit you.

Speakers include Julian Tait of Open Data Manchester, Jordy Van Kuijk of Connected Liveprool and Zarino Zappia of Liverpool-based ScraperWiki and tech-cruncher Mark Iliffe.

If you’re still a bit baffled as to why open data is important, take a look at our interview with ScraperWiki and how they’re using data from government and public bodies to highlight important issues.

And if you’re still not clear, well, we can only suggest you head down to the Cafe at Static this Thursday.
