Luckily, the term ‘world music’ has now been rightfully relegated to the scrapheap of cringe – with the advent of YouTube, broadband and filesharing, country borders and genres become mushed up and insignificant. New generations of musicians are pushing forward with little concern for existing musical boundaries, and it’s completely thrilling.

Africa’s excellent Mokoomba are one such band, and they head to The Picket on 10th November. A joyful fusion of Afro-pop, ska, dancehall and shuffling salsa, the fresh-faced Zimbabweans are an absolute must-see. Check out their recent appearance on Jools Holland below, if you needed any more convincing.
