As we’ve already seen, Liverpool does Halloween really well. We were going to include the Lantern Parade’s celebration of the season in our things to do in Liverpool this Halloween, but how best to sum up three different events in one go?
Instead we’ve decided to do a rundown of the three events at the Blundell Street theatre separately, kicking off with an afternoon aimed at the sprogs. The Monster Messy Mash Up should keep your little terrors entertained with games, crafts and food aimed at turning your homestead into something rather more messy.
Next up is a Halloween production of Rumpelstiltskin, entitled As Grimm As It Gets, representing the first in-house production composed solely by The Lantern Ambassadors.
We’re also promised a “considerably darker, chilling” take on the fairytale, which anyone who’s familiar with the tale (toothless dwarf demands firstborn) will know is hardly a laugh a minute at the best of times.
Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes on show in the audience – and there’s a late bar for those who prefer their spirits a little, er, stiffer.
Finally on the 31st the Lantern will be transformed into the kind of nightmare scenario you might expect from a modern horrorporn film. The venue will become a dungeon from which the only escape comes from participating in a ‘a voodoo workshop’ with live actors – among other things – culminating in a Halloween banquet that includes toenail clippings and sweet tooth cupcakes.
Sounds ghastly, eh?
