Autumn’s looking brilliant for gigs in the city, and this avant-R&B singer visiting the Kazimier is no exception.

Though the current wave of DJs and artists co-opting R&B is occasionally a little trying, there’s a handful of musicians pushing their take on the genre in interesting and fruitful directions. One of which, Autre Ne Veut, aka Arthur Ashin, released his excellent ‘Anxiety’ album earlier in the year to mass critical acclaim. A mixture of textured, colourful electronica, emotional wordplay (‘Counting’, below, is an ode to his dying grandmother), and impassioned vocals, it’s a record that cements Ashin as a performer with a clear, thrilling, occasionally unsettling, vision.

The Brooklyn artist’s not visited the UK that much, so this rare stop-off in Liverpool is worth a look – support comes from bliss-pop project Tropics, signed to forward-thinking electronica label Planet Mu.
