Radar: Kubrick season at FACT

FACT's Kubrick season has four of the lauded director's best-known films on the big screen over February and March.

FACT, with these mini film seasons you’re really spoiling us. As if the mini Jim Henson season wasn’t enough, we’ve now got a bunch of Kubrick’s best-known film on at the Ropewalks cinema.

If there was ever a director suited to being viewed on the big screen it must be Kubrick – all those wide and tracking shots; the sometimes overwhelming music.

A Clockwork Orange is something to behold in the cinema and 2001 and The Shining are perfect for the medium, but we think it’s Doctor Strangelove that’s the best of the films here.

Peter Sellers’ three lead performances ensure that film’s greatness, but there are several wonderful performances to savour, from George C Scott and Sterling Hayden particularly.

Watch for career-defining performances in the others from Malcolm MacDowell and Jack Nicholson in A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. And for, er, Leonard Rossiter’s appearance in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

So, what’s it all about? A cry for individuality? One mans own misanthropic worldview? Well, we’d be here all night. All we know is, they look amazing on the silver screen.

God bless all of our precious bodily fluids.
