“Every now and then, I fall a little bit behind…” Croll sings on ‘From Nowhere’ – a song that’s resolutely all front. Shotgun reverb, twanging Dwane Eddy guitars, echoey bar room piano and a sexy bossa nova backbeat. It’s like Lee Hazlewood meets Astrud Gilberto in some Williamsburg basement bar.
The result is an insanely catchy slice of multi-instrumental chutzpah. And another example of the globe-spanning influences Croll wears so lightly.
