Our congratulations to Leanne Best on her Theatre Awards UK nomination for her performance in The Match Box at the Liverpool Playhouse Studio over the Summer.

The play, written by Frank McGuinness and directed by Bafta-nominated actor and director Lia Williams, had its original run extended due to its popularity and has been recognised by Theatre Awards UK, the only nationwide awards scheme to honour creative excellence and outstanding achievement seen on and off stage.

Gemma Bodinetz, Artistic Director of the Everyman and Playhouse, said: “We are thrilled that an actress we have long regarded as exceptional has been nominated for this prestigious national award.”

As a nominee, Best is following in the footsteps of Jonathan Pryce, who was nominated for his performance in the Everyman production of The Caretaker in 2009.

Leanne’s performance in the one-woman show, performing a monologue that lasted for over 90 minutes, knocked us sideways. We praised the LIPA graduate’s performance of such strength that it “stings the eyes”.
