What are you doing next Wednesday? The Apprentice has nothing on this…sometime SevenStreets fashion correspondent Rosaleen Gallagher has organised a breast cancer fundraising event with Pillbox Vintage. The theme? Burlesque in the Blitz. Talk about keep the home fires burning…
Burlesque in the Blitz promises an evening of slap, tickle and good old wartime variety. And the sizzling routines will be raising money for CoppaFeel, the breast cancer charity.
Authentic 1940’s cakes will be provided by Liverpool bakery Off My Cake, and the appropriately bunker-like Baby Blue at the Albert Dock will be hosting the event.
Masters of ceremony, The Canary Cage have lined up burlesque’s big, er, hitters, including forces sweetheart, 40’s and 50’s tribute singer, Heather Marie (pic), The Swingaroo Sisters, with ‘tight as a girdle’ wartime harmonies, Gem de la Creme, a burlesque beauty set to debut her ‘Landgirl’ routine, and Twinkle Starr, a pin-up and burlesque star set to feature on the next series of Britain’s Got Talent. At time of press, we can’t confirm there’ll be any dancing dogs though, alas.
Pillbox Vintage will be selling some of their most coveted burlesque pieces after the performances so that anyone so inspired can take home a little bit of the magic and have a go at home. Local businesses will also be donating prizes for the event so that guests can be in with a chance of winning a little slice of burlesque heaven.
Tickets cost £8/£10 and are available from:
