Interesting news popped into our inbox this morning – another performance space is set to open up within the ACC Liverpool complex.

The Auditorium Liverpool sits in the BT Convention Centre down at the waterfront, and is set to hold “between 850 and 1350” people – it’s planning live music, sport, comedy, film screenings, broadcast events, and everything in between.

The new theatre-style venue follows the Arena’s successful EchoTwo idea – a curtained-off, 4,000 capacity space in the main venue for artists and productions on a smaller scale than its usual mega-productions.

The Auditorium itself is pretty nice, and we’re told the sound, acoustics and views inside are excellent as well. It’ll be interesting to see the types of events booked in there over the next couple of seasons, as it’s a similar size to the Philharmonic’s capacity, but we’re sure there’s space for them both in the city. Along with the newly refurbished Epstein, Liverpool’s got a great little portfolio of mid-sized theatre venues again.

The Auditorium’s calendar kicks off with a Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Jimmy White snooker match on the 25th, and the musical Rent visits next spring.

I’ve worked at loads of conferences in this space – excellent acoustics and sight lines – surprised they haven’t used it beyond the business sector before now to be honest. But yeah great venue addition for the city.
