Summer Squash at the Wirral Food Festival

Queued for over an hour to get into the Wirral Food and Drink Festival. Talk about it becoming a victim of its own success. Still, despite the crush, managed to bag practically the last two sticky toffee puddings, some goat meat, marinades, half a turbot and quite a few glasses of Brimstage brewery’s finest. But wonder whether the event’s simply got too big for its rural idyll location? That one rickety farm-access bridge over the M53 looked very vulnerable to us. If it was a music festival, what’s the betting the council would scrap it because poor access would constitute a safety hazard? They should have seen the rush to the stage when the London Carriage Work’s Tom Lee (NW Young Chef of the Year) started handing out tit-bits.

On a glorious Bank Holiday The Claremont Farm location, with its rolling fields and views of the Welsh mountains is beautiful, but we wonder if it should take note of Liverpool’s Sefton Park location and up sticks to Birkenhead Park next year?
