Peddling their recipe of synth pop with a whiff of the souk and a dash of Eastern promise, Blancmange were always a tastier proposition than most 80s electro duos. So it’s great to see them back – and playing in town tonight. Shame, though, that illness has meant Steven Luscombe has had to drop out of the tour. Still, they’ve still got the tunes, and as new album Blanc Burn suggests they’re more than just a retro curio.

Our favourite, though, has to be the cheeky remake of ABBA’s The Day Before You Came. We’re a day late, really, as they’re here, now.
