Liverpool Music Week picks part 1: Summer Camp

We spotlight some of our favourite artists visiting the city for this month's Liverpool Music Week. First up: power-pop duo Summer Camp...

Summer Camp

We’ll admit it. We were a little suspicious of London-based duo Summer Camp at first. Their fully-formed blog ‘n’ tumblr friendly aesthetic (washed out photography! Melancholy retro Americana!) seemed a little too studied, a little at odds with their sparky British pop. But since their debut last year they’ve slowly won us round with a drip feed of sassy and clever indie-pop, and we’re chuffed to see they’re heading to Liverpool Music Week this month.

They’ve got some good form, too. One half of the band is Jeremy Warmsley, who carved out a rather interesting solo career for himself in the late 2000s as a geeky, folky troubadour. The other half is journalist Elizabeth Sankey, whose cut glass vowels and bratty, powerhouse vocals are set to reverberate around MOJO when they’re in town on Saturday 10th.

As a taster, try ‘Better Off Without You’ (below) – an offensively catchy middle finger ode to an ex-boyfriend that sounds like the theme tune to a long lost 80s movie.
