Radar: Down Our Street Musical

A musical about the life of a shipyard? Why not. There's a fascinating tale to be told here, after all.

What: You can brick up the Mersey tunnels if that’s your thing, but you’d be missing a rich cultural exchange if you did. Mind you, those two statements never really went hand in hand, did they?

Next month sees the debut Liverpool-side performance of the acclaimed Cammell Laird musical, Down Our Street, by the Active Theatre Company.  It’s seen three sell-out runs on the Wirral, and has become something of a sleeper hit.

Riveted onto the score,  the tale of the shipyard and its social history is archive footage of the ship builders from fifty years ago, projected onto the stage, vividly bringing this mighty company, and the town it forged in its shadow, to life. The liners might have gone, but as Celine says, our hearts will go on.

Where: 1-3 September, Unity Theatre, 1 Hope Place
