We don’t know what it is about Simply Heathcoates. The food is perfectly decent, and the location could be fantastic – overlooking the iconic water sculpture known locally as the ‘Tipping Buckets’ – but we’re not feeling the love just yet. This airy venue never soars – and that, ultimately, could be its undoing. Still, for modern British cooking, it’s hard to beat.
