Liverpool Marathon Cancelled

Liverpool's young, yet well respected Marathon event has had to be cancelled this year, after the Council demanded further route changes, and for it to end in Wirral.

This year’s Run Liverpool Liverpool Marathon has been cancelled. BTR, formerly Run Liverpool have announced that this year’s event, scheduled for Sunday, 13th October has been shelved after talks with Liverpool City Council, who’ve asked organisers to once again reconsider the course structure in order to alleviate the impact on Liverpool waterfront roads and, to date, the parties have been unable to agree an alternative.

“There was no alternative. It was suggested the event ran from Liverpool to Wirral and whilst that may seem quite straightforward it is far from it. I have taken the decision that this is not in the long term interests of the race and consequently feel I have no alternative than to cancel,” says organiser Alan Rothwell.

Anyone who has entered the marathon since entries opened on 1st February will have their entry fee repaid.

A decision on the Wirral 10K will be made shortly but entries will remain open for this race.
