The Weekly Seven: 28th January 2013

The end of the funniest show on TV, a Chinese artist talk, a brilliant new podcast, and a 'to do' list with a difference. All the stuff we're talking about this week.

30 Rock

TV The most hilarious and clever show to ever grace TV screens is coming to an end this week after 7 seasons. It’s previously been shown on Comedy Central over here, but your best bet is to catch up on the box sets to watch it in all its surreal, quotable (“Good God, those jeans make you look like a Mexican sports reporter”) glory. Fan Shi San at Open Eye Gallery, 31st January

EVENT Fan Shi San heads down to Mann Island on Thursday for a talk about his series ‘Two of Us’, which explores Chinese identity in relation to its one child only policy, applied to married urban couples since the 70s. It’s set to be an enlightening, intriguing glimpse into the life of a practising Chinese artist. 12.30pm, free, book online.

Whole at Unity Theatre, from 31st January

THEATRE Any play which has the tagline ‘Sex. Death. Love. Religion. Dubstep’ is well worth a look. This new teenage-focused 20 Stories High production, a company that encourages new writers and youth theatre, takes over the Unity from Thursday 31st til Saturday 2nd. More information

Jeff Garlin’s By The Way

PODCAST Jeff Garlin, AKA Larry David’s long-suffering agent in Curb Your Enthusiasm, has a new podcast. And it’s really rather excellent – latest offering features Girls creator/star Lena Dunham, riffing about gmail inboxes, red carpet adventures, and being horrified by The Client List. Tales of the City, Radio 4

RADIO Armistead Maupin’s seminal 70′s soap, Tales of the City is to get the Radio 4 treatment this week. Episode one, Mary Ann Singleton, a naive young woman from Cleveland, arrives in San Francisco. Oh GOD, we can’t wait for it all to begin again… More information

Besnard Lakes

MUSIC Besnard Lakes whisk scuzzy indie rock with Beach Boys-good harmonies. And they’ve never sounded better than on new cut, People of the Sticks. As a trailer for new set, ‘Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO’ it’s almost too tempting.
