Edwyn Collins to play Liverpool Philharmonic

Bow down: there's a pop legend coming to town. One of British music's most talented songwriters makes a rare appearance in Liverpool next spring.

Just announced: post-punk royalty Edwyn Collins is set to play the Philharmonic Hall next year. If you’re not familiar with Edwyn’s work – a) what the hell have you been doing with your life, and b) you’re in for a right treat when you dig in. A member of defining Glaswegian jangly angular pop band Orange Juice, and solo star, he’s got a bursting-at-the-seams back catalogue that’s up there with the best.

In 2005, Edwyn suffered a stroke, leaving him unable to walk or talk. He’s been on the mend since, but it’s not dulled his vision or his passion: what we’ve heard of new album ‘Understated’, out in 2013, is stunning; Edwyn’s typically lush pop, with a country twang. A documentary on Collins’ life is also due next year, by the team that did Blur’s great reunion film.

He played a joyful, beautiful show at Liverpool Cathedral in 2010, and so a chance to check him out at this Harvest Sun-promoted gig at the Philharmonic – his only north west show on his spring tour – is a must. Chuck it in your diary.
