Radar: Gravenhurst at Nordic Church

Bristol's best kept secret head to town this weekend, for another surefooted Harvest Sun production. Go, mix up your shoegaze folk fantasies...

Harvest Sun seem to have somewhat taken over Liverpool with their relentless stream of interesting gigs at a wide variety of venues. Recent and upcoming gigs include Deer Tick, Neil Halstead, Euros Childs, Purity Ring and the highly successful recent Psych Fest held recently at the Camp and Furnace.

This Saturday they bring Warp’s under the radar Bristol songwriter Gravenhurst to Liverpool. In another intriguing proposition this event is to be held in The Seamen’s Scandinavian Church on Liverpool’s Park Lane.

For the uninitiated, of which we know there are many, Gravenhurst is essentially Nick Talbot, also a producer and multi-instrumentalist who mixes up folk, psychedelia, shoegaze and electronic sampling in a beautiful understated way. It is dark, atmospheric and underpinned with intricate guitar work Gravenhurst have released five albums this decade including 2005’s ‘Fires in Distant Buildings’ and this year’s ‘The Ghost in the Daylight.’ Their song ‘Nicole,’ was featured on the soundtrack of Shane Meadow’s film ‘This is England.’

This is sure to be one of the highlights of the Autumn in the city’s gigs calendar. Get ready to be haunted by Gravenhurst and experience one of music’s best-kept secrets. And, with support from the excellent Bird and Silent Sleep, it’s a night not to miss.
