Opera Di Peroni: A Little Night Music

What happens when you add opera to electronics on a hot summer’s night, and mix with a dash of ice cold Peroni? Something very refreshing indeed...

Imagine your perfect summer’s evening in the city. Thrilling music, an outdoor soiree beneath the beautifully floodlit Liverpool Cathedral, a crisp Italian beer in your hand. Does it get any better than that?

What if we said it was opera?

No, wait…What if we said it was a galvanizing blend of dramatic Italian opera enhanced by a spine-tingling electronic sheen, courtesy of Big Dada producer and sometime Damon Albarn and The XX collaborator, Kwes?

Got your attention now, haven’t we?

Opera Di Peroni blends the finest arias and melodies of classic Italian opera, and weaves in the glitches, beats and soundscapes of the finest leftfield electronica to create a unique, electrifying re-imagining of both genres – and a contemporary and immersive summer’s night of the highest order.

Inspired by Verona’s legendary summer season of al fresco operas, this is one orchestral manoeuvre in the dark no electronic, or opera fan for that matter, will want to miss.

The event is the brilliant creation of Go Opera, a young production company who say they’re ‘fed up with the reputation opera’s garnered over the past few hundred years’. In one hot August night, we have a sneaky feeling they might just change all that.

Arrive early, and you can soak in the atmosphere, in the beautiful cathedral gardens, all day long. So clear a space in your diary, and start a love affair with a passionate new Italian this summer…

A Day in the Gardens

Peroni Nastro Azzurro will be selling Italian style lunch boxes and cool Peronis from 12pm – 5pm. Enjoy an Italian-style picnic under their sleek new outdoor space, even if you’re not attending the concert, in
the hushed surroundings of the Cathedral Gardens. There’s also a smart public bar, if you’re passing and hanker after a cool Peroni. Personally, we can think of few more civilised detours on our way home
from work.

A Night at the Opera

The main event will take place in a specially designed, intimate performance space, for 200 invited guests each evening. Your ticket will entitle you to a complementary Peroni and platters of delicious Italian food. The evening runs from 7pm until 9:30pm and will be punctuated with mini immersive Opera performances, wrapping you up in a warm cocoon of summer’s evening sounds. Bliss.

Win a Pair of Tickets

There’s a cool online trailer to tempt you into the garden of Operatic delights – you can check it out right here.

Keep a beady eye on the images and, when you spot something Italian, strike like Balotelli and click on it to win a pair of tickets to an al fresco evening to remember. We tried it. Apparently bass guitars aren’t Italian. There’s a clue.
